The Following Story

What an amazing novel! Nooteboom's use of the camera lens style of writing is brilliant! The book also reminded me of class yesterday, how Dr. Sexson had an idea then went on a 20 minute tangent and came back to the idea we had all forgotten spawned the conversation in the first place. Nooteboom's story has this strewn throughout it. Makes you really think and pay attention to the details of it. It's also funny how the little things, really insignificant, seem to connect the major details. I love when a novel really plays that up. Attention to detail is a skill I have but would like to improve. Like Sherlock Holmes or Monk.

This is the kind of attention to detail I think is needed to delve into Finnegans Wake. My cursory scanning will be fine for the semester but I will most likely spend the next 17 years with the novel like Joyce would like. I have never been more excited for a book. This is the only one I know I will be able to read for the rest of my life and never get bored with.
